Is my domain name wrong?

Hi All,

I need your advice, I have a new parenting and pregnancy forum the domain name is precious-babes.com and the forum went live on the 10th April, I have had non stop spamming from pictures being posted of child porn, to viagra links, ringtone links etc and I just cant seem to beat them off!

Do you think the domain name is causing it - I am new to all this forum stuff and thinking I have made a big no no here! problem is what do I do now

 

It's inevitable in forums, wiki's and blog comments, esp if you use a popular forum software like phpbb. A captcha on the login page should help against bots signing up to your site. There should be a Phpbb captcha mod.

 

Thanks it is a phpbb forum and I do have a captcha set on the login page I also have the registration set to confirm the email address but its getting ridiculous I have at least 8 spammers registering a day and the forum is not even a month old, I am guessing this is nothing I can do about it, but its damn frustrating and I am dreading it getting worse.

 

back up and swap to mybb you wont loose data and the nasty spam bots will poof. you can also get phpbb anti spam mods stick one of them in hope this helpd.

 

Hi it does help if I could understand LOL I honestly need a step by step guide for dummies being new to forums and databases, so here comes the dummy question what is mybb and how do I do this?

 

mybb is like phpbb its just another board i find it better all round the phpbb if you want to try and get some mods for you phpbb see here http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=427852 add some spam mods and you should be fine

Instead of a captcha use a challenge question: ie what is 1+2?

Another solution would be to switch from phpbb to less a popular board that spammers haven't focussed on....yet.

Yep. Pretty inevitable with forums, just as it was mentioned above.

 

Thanks for all the advice I will be installing a different captcha and see if that lessens it a little but I do feel a little re-assured to know that it is inevitable LOL just gets so frustrating and repetitive when your constantly deleting usernames and links all the time.
