Hi, I've just changed my link color to a luminous green in the hope that this will highlight the ads... I think I had them so nicely blended into the page that they were practically ineffectual. Could you please tell me if this has ruined my page, or how else I could improve without making TOO many changes to my layout and colors... really appreciated. James
It is an interesting tactic to try to make them stand out like that -- it actually doesn't make me ill looking at it. The big killer for your traffic is the pause between May and December -- that is a long time for a site to sit stagnant. Try to work to increase interested traffic to your site, you'll see more income as you steadily build content over time.
Thanks. How did you notice the pause? I've been posting almost every day since the beginning of december. In May, we bought our house, then got married, then went on hoenymoon, THEN starting decorating and furnishing. And..., then got stuff to write about. Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you didn't feel ill. I was afraid people wouldn't understand what I meant by bleeaagh...
Well, look at your sidebar on the homepage under Archives: May 2005, December 2005, January 2006. In Blogger you CAN blog backwards (when posting a new comment, you can click on options and change the date). Maybe you should try to add some posts backwards to give your readers the impression of continuity? I blog every day (I have broadband-on-the-go everywhere) and it helps bring people back every day.
Will you let us know if your clicks improve? Everything you read states that you should make your ads become part of your page and if you can make them look like content so much the better. It would be nice to not have to be so "sneaky" just to earn a few pennies. Phill
I'll let you know. The reason I changed it is that there were some really cool ads appearing, and not even I could see them without looking for them. So I thought if people just glanced to see the green while reading, they might have more chance of seeing something they like. Oh well, if wishes were pennies...
That is something worth trying actually: picking link text colors that are very close to the regular site colors but not exactly. If you have a color code of FFCC66 (goldish) maybe do your AdSense text as FFCC44 -- close but not exact. If its just slightly off maybe subconsciously it might pop out? I don't like the sneaky tactics -- I have no problem with letting people see they're clicking on advertising. If Google gets the right algorithms together, they'll feed the right ads to the right people.
