Is MP4 Higher Quality then FLV? What is the difference? I have a new website and I am considering to either use flv or mp4 because my player is able to play both.

Please help me list the pros and cons, btw this is going to be a youtube like site.:D

mp4 is a 'container' not a codec, so the quality is dependant on the codec chosen. Typically you would use h.264 codec inside an mp4 (although not necessarily) h.264 is a modern very high quality codec, and is rapidly becoming a n industry standard within broadcast and film where a lower bandwidth transport mechanism is required e.g the web.
With the latest flash player version (9.0.115.0+), you can stream h.264 directly to a flash video player, and you can also offer it as a downloadable format, so it's the ideal format for web video.

mike is correct. however the problem with h264 is that for really high quality stuff, the end user will need a pretty powerful system to watch the video.

another problem is the speed and cpu usage of encoding with h264.

other than that its just a godsend.

yes, h.264 decoding is processor intensive, however the latest flash player builds use hardware acceleration to counter this. There shouldn't be an issue unless you're using very high resolution video. You could also use on2 vp6-s codec which is specifically designed for playing back high quality video in HD resolutions, while not being too processor intensive.
