microsoft are slowly losing to apple and google, this is because apple and google are leading companies that actually listen to their consumers and produce funky, often free products. microsoft are anti-competitive, monopolising and faceless. they're trying to change this but i dont think they'll manage it quickly enough
Even though MAC is gaining popularity, Microsoft is still the leading software/OS manufacturer to date. You can run a simple poll here in DP to find out how many people are using Windows, Mac, Linux and other OS and I'm pretty sure more than 60% are running Windows.
That doesn't mean anything. For example, more people use IE than any other browser but IE has lost 1/3 of its market share over the last 5 years while the other browsers have captured 1/3 of it from IE. So IE is losing the battle even though they still have more users for the moment.
Your Question is wrong, cause Microsoft is a Company and Mac is a Computer. You should ask if Microsoft is losing the battle against Apple! Well, define losing? If you mean that Microsofts global share is getting smaller each year, then yes. But Microsoft still holds over 88% on the global market each year. Here are some stats: In 2003 Microsoft had a global share in the Operating System Market of 96%! Now in 2010, its down to 88% In 2003 Apple had a global share in the Operating System Market of 1.8%! Now in 2010 its up to 6.8%! So, Microsoft lost over 10%, but they still hold 88% which is a MASSIVE amount. Just because Microsoft lost 10% doesn't mean they're losing the fight, it simply means that they got competition. I myself switched to a Mac 2 years ago, and I see that Apple with it's MacOS is years a head of Microsoft. But everybody needs to make up their own opinion.
@K.Meier, You mean desktop OS, not the Operating System Market as a whole. Microsoft is a minor player everywhere else but the desktop.
Desktop of course. Linux is dominating the server industry by far. Although MS is gaining In that part of the market.
If by "losing to Apple" you mean losing market share it'd be fair to say yes. That being said they are in no way losing to Apple. Only time will tell, Apple is certainly doing a better job under the direction of Jobs.
Of course they're losing to Apple as well as to other OS and Linux, look at the statistics! Microsoft down by 10% in the past 7 years, Apple up by 5%. http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp
They're sales may be declining (MSFT), but remember Apple has some pretty big products used by EVERYONE (iPod, iPhone, etc), which can explain Apples sales going up. As for Apple computers, NO. Microsoft computer wise owns Apple computer wise. $2500 for a MacBookShitty, that is slower then my $800 PC. YEA RIGHT!
Sales of Mac computers have doubled in the last two years as I've shown in the past. To the contrary, as I've also just recently shown, Macs run software just as well as Windows PCs and are far cheaper to maintain and keep than Windows computers. Your statement is of one who has never owned or used a Mac.
