I'm getting a 200 GB External HDD (USB 2.0) of Maxtor (new, from a store) for about $80, good deal? IT
Yeah, I have been using the Maxtor Basics external harddisk and they are quite reliable and cheap. Maxtor used to be a good harddisk manufacturer and they got bought over by Seagate years back. Now the Maxtor brand is mainly used to market external solution. See http://www.maxtorsolutions.com/en/Main/home_user.html
I'm currently using a 350GB maxtor HDD - they've always been very reliable and i've never had any problems with my hard drive, Definately a trustworthy name.
Hell I guess I'll go out and buy that 200GB thing in a few days seeing all the positive reviews in this thread. Thanks guys! IT
Seagate are also a good brand so it wouldn't surprise me if maxtor wanted to expand by buying them / merging with them. If you shopped around a bit I bet you could get a 500GB external one for nearly the same price of the 200gb one, I did pay a lot for my 500GB one though but the large ones like that were not long out and now the prices are a lot cheaper *bangs head of table*
Well seems like I'm the only one here with a different point of view. I've had three, and all of them let me down. I had to learn it the hard way, but I thought it was just coincidence. Now I'm staying away from them... Also, I have this Multimedia HDD (one of these that you connect on your TV), and on the outside it says "Maxtor", but I opened it, and I was surprised to find a SAMSUNG HDD in it. I guess they don't even trust their own products, lol. Anyway, my advice: Stay away from them. EDIT: Btw, a friend of mine had bad experience with them too, and now he's staying away from them as well.
