Is manual submission still the way? Are there any good auto-submitters?

For years I've been manually submitting my sites to directories. I haven't even considered any kind of submission script/software/etc.

Are there any that are valuable or worthwhile, that work to any degree, or am I still doing the best I can by submitting one by one, manually?

I think you are doing the best, manual submission one by one, so that you can submit your site into proper category and with proper submission details.

Manual submission is time-consuming but IMO it's the best way.

Well, I see that automated submissions are becoming good year by year. But IMHO, manual submission still wins by a big margin.

I stick with manual with InFormEnter, its quick enough while still being natural and flexible and basic enough.

I recommended only manual directory submission. I reject any submission that posted by some script or other software. Webmasters get lots of information when you post your site i.e. IP, Data/Time, Browser, OS etc. If you use IE to post your site to directory, the browser information would be Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer etc. which are all IE category. So, with that information, we can confirm that you're not using any software. If the browser information shows i.e. other, unknown etc. that's means you're using software or script. So, we reject those submissions.

Manual submissions for sure are the way to go, but I've been using RoboForm to help me out with them, it's shaved off a ton of time!

if you want your site listed beside a casino site or pills site then go for automated ones. And in case if you decide to go with manual submissions then i recommend you Mikey's services here.

Manual submission is the best. I've used automated submission services and the quality/ PR of directories is often low - less than advertised. The categories and even languages end up being slight hit an miss too, e.g. you might get submitted/ listed in German, French or Spanish directories.

I've been using submiteaze.com which is semi automated software. You still goto each site but the software can fill in the form for you automatically.

I also use SubmitEaze and overall it has sped up the process and still ensures my sites are put in the proper category with proper submission details.

Manual submission is always the best. Auto-Submitters SUCK big time.

Automatic submissions does not work and with these semi automatic stuff, it takes the same amount of time and just make the job even more frustrating. '

for those who say it takes the same amount of time with semi-automatic submitters...why is that? it seems it'd be quicker

    HI

How do you say auto submitter suck big time.... they do the same thing as you submitting your site manually but 10x faster... go figure... and what script do you use for your directory... that you spend time to check if a user used explorer or firefox , and who cares about the ip, and what does it matter what browser a submitter users to submit their sites to your directory.

What you need to look for is... that the submitter submits their site to the right category in your directory.... and does not keyword stuff the description box or title field..... or use deep links if you do not allow them... or put their url in the description....

So many people on DP say auto submitter sux and not to use them.... these are people that sell directory submission services... and don't want you to use directory submission software...

Phew glad I got that out now..

    Thx
    Tom

@ezmedia: You have some good points :)

I would put a disclaimer before this post: I sell manual directory submission service !!

    The reasons why I don't like auto / semi-submitters:

    1. Most submitters work limited number of directories and you can't submit to 'all' directories that you wish to.
    2. Most submitters fail to submit when people put mods to directories (ajax category mode for phpld is a popular one)
    3. They also don't work properly when directory owners expect users to navigate through the directory before they can submit the site (it's not a huge problem to solve though)
    4. Before submitting you can't really see the guidelines. Some of the guidelines that are frequently ignored because of auto submissions:
    i. Minimum PR for the site required
ii. Only site title to be used as submission title
iii. Only site URL to be used as submission title
iv. Specific validations (like w3c xhtml / css validation) required before submitting
    v. blogs / subdomains not accepted
    5. Many directories keep toggling between free and paid and with auto-directory submitters you continue to submit to directories that have become paid (amounting to spam).

I an go on and write about the perils of using automated submission software. I see that you are promoting an automated directory submitter (ref your sig) and your opinion is also a biased opinion like mine is.
