I know there are many opportunities to earn from it and thats why i am asking. B8ut is there a certain script which could pull out the latest content for me. Or where could i get the latest content to make it work. Is it worth it?
i think a portal will need general latest news. or if its niche specific for ex:gaming.then it will need the latest gaming news,would'nt it?
If you need to pull out content from others I don't think it is worth it, portal needs to have their own unique content to generate interest and visits. Also it is more difficult to maintain than a normal forum.
Pay a writer to do the rewriting of those topics you want... copying is not a good idea unless you rewrite it in another way..
Rewriting doesn't really help for a portal, the OP needs to think it himself what uniqueness that his portal can offer as compared to so many other portals on the market and create his own content himself. Asking such questions shows he aren't prepared and had not yet identify a niche for his portal.
i have not yet identified the niche.you are right. i was trying to get a hang of the niche before testing the waters myself.
There is a lot of portal software around especially those PHP based, the main problem with portals is a constant need for content, new unique content that users would visit constantly. So the main issue is to identify the correct niche and how you are able to get new content, maybe partner with a few friends with the same interest etc. The requirements for success is the same for any web site, unique and original content.

A template for your case is more of skinning the application, you will definitely need one of those scripts, as you grow, you may even need some parts to be customized to fit your portal better. Best if you check on existing portals, see their features and see what you want to implement.
