I have a company running and hosting in the good ol USA. I'm doing a lot of linking, and following the rule of diversity. I was wondering the following: Is it good to get links from sites in other countries, England, Russia, Khazakstan (is nice) etc. I'm not really looking for my site to rank in Russias google results, but a link is a link right, and maybe getting links from other countries will add to the diversity of my linking campaign and make my site look more authoritative? Or is it just a waste of time. Thanks in advance for your time and insight.
I dont think it really matters where the sites are located, but the language in they are written should matter
Yes, as rehash said, it doesnt really matter, as long as the site in other countires is somehow related in theme to your site. For example, if you have a travel website, you could be exchanging links with other travel sites around the world.
I personally worry more about theme then location. In saying that though, if you are optimising for a local site for a local search engine, getting local links would be important.
