Limited link exchange is good. Aggressive link exchange is not good. Link exchange that makes no sense is bad. Like linking to an electronics site from a recipe site, you get the idea.
frankly speaking, SEO sometime have a little surpirse, i remeber the first time i do this job,i dont now what is the mean of "link" so, i do nothing, but one month ago i have a good rank in google, now i know why, because i have good articles and favorable visitors
If you are doing link exchange with a site having higher PR than yours... than it would surely pass on some juice to you, helping you get a good PR too! Regards, RightMan
Actually it depends on many factors like each link has a specific value, which is determined by the PageRank of the page where the link is located divided by the total number of outgoing links on that page. For instance, if a page has a PageRank value of 8 and 4 outgoing links, each of those links will pass 2 points of "link juice" (the calculations on the algorithm are more complex, but this is the basic idea). For example, if you get your link placed on a PageRank of 10 and 2 outgoing links, so your website is receiving 5 points of link juice from that link. The actual PageRank of your website will be 4.25, or 5 x 0.85. This happens because Google applies a damping factor of 0.85 when it makes PageRank calculations (this is necessary else the PageRank of two pages linking to each other would grow to infinite). I dont prefer much of link exchanges like reciprocal links. One way links OR 3 way links would be a good idea.
Actually good doesn't give too much value on reciprocal link. Most of the case new Blogger or site owner try to exchange link. I did it too. If you are newbie the link exchange with a high page rank help but it's hard even impossible because Blogger with high rank don't want to exchange like at least with not newbie Blogger. So try to build your backlinks by guest posting, forum posting, blog commenting and it's natural
It's just like anything in life, if you're doing TOO much of it, it's likely bad for your website. Occasionally trading links isn't too bad.
Link exchange is bad if you only swapping links for PR. The point of link swapping is to provide links that you think might be useful for your users, not only just links that are related to your website, but are there for the users also. Swapping links for PR is bad idea IMO.
you can read my blogpost on link exchange to see whether it is beneficial exchanging links or not: http://blogs.digitalpoint.com/entry.php?b=54
Link exchange is very good, especially if your site used a business review. But it's good if you exchange links with sites that already have high PageRank, it really helps your site to get a better pagerank.
Hi, green789 In my own experiences, link exchange is still a useful channel for traffic purpose but you need to keep away from niche irrelative sites and bad neighbors. Generally speaking, exchanging links with niche relative, higher PR sources would benefit your own sites. Have a nice day,
