Is Link Building Dead?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by eric_wahlberg, Jul 29, 2014.

    Hi,

I have changed my field from Seo to Content Writing.

But, I would like to know " Is Link Building completely dead?"

I mean article submission, directory submission, link exchange and social bookmarking considered illegal by Google, then what remains in Link Building?

Please clear my doubts regarding this.

It's not dead, but junk links are of no value anymore; for example, paying a company $10 for 100+ backlinks (from home-grown junk directories and blogs) is not going to work for your site anymore and may very well work against it and devalue your SERPs (instead of increasing it) - however a smaller number of "natural" links from good quality sites over a reasonable timescale should still work in your favour.

Quality counts and if you try to shortcut it, you'll very likely pay the penalty!! ;)

Some link building techniques have died, most of the ones you mention.

There are still link building techniques that work, some of them approved by google, some of them not, like guest blogging, content marketing, private blog networks, inforgraphics marketing, etc..

In that regard, link building is not dead, it just changed.

You are still living in the stone age.

Social bookmarks, wikis, directories e.t.c have never been reliable.

For you to get result with SEO you need:

    High quality links
    Relevance
    Unique article
    Low OBL

Methods like guest blogging and outreach are very good to go too.

Link building is not dead yet. It is still in use. But the techniques have changed. Now you have to focus on more quality work rather than quantity.

Hence, for this, try to make backlinks in niche sites with high PR values.

I love how people seem to love to declare something "dead" or "useless" just because they've seen or heard something somewhere. Link building is far from dead, as is guest blogging (something often discussed) if you do it right and don't engage in spammy networks. Link building specifically has been going towards organic links for quite some time now. As others mentioned above - you should be looking for natural, relevant, quality links from various sources. Spread your efforts between DoFollow and NoFollow links. Strongly avoid most services that promise to submit 200 links in a day or offer 100 DoFollow links. This is so unnatural that you are just are just screaming to be penalized.

Don't believe everything that you hear....in fact, believe very little of it ;)
Constantly test what works for you and be patient. That's the best I can advise you ;)

    1. Backlinks from high authority sites still matter.
    2. Excessive amount of backlinks from low authority blogs don't really anymore. Unless you actually want to connect with the blog author or the people in the blog, don't bother wasting time on that.
    3. Trying to game the algorithm using some kind of text pattern is now dead. Just make sure you title is captivating and describes your content accurately and descriptively.
    4. It's all about social media now, so make sure you share everything on social media websites.
    5. Just follow the basics of seo when constructing your webpage like make sure all pages are easily accessible etc. stuff like that.
    6. Guest blogging is highly effective if you have the time to waste on writing articles for someone else.

That's all I'm comfortable to tell you so far. Many things you'll eventually learn if you really want to succeed in this field and remember "Insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting different results." Be methodical be scientific, study your niche, study your audience.

Good links are still important. Link building?...less so.

I've gotten sufficiently fed up with chasing links, then having Google pull the rug out from under those methods, that I pretty much concentrate nowadays on writing good, original content. Then I share it on my personal social media sites — my Facebook, my Google+, and my LinkedIn. Other than that, I post a link to the new page on Squidoo, reddit, and maybe two others like them. That's it, period. I don't have the time (or energy at age 71) to go chasing links anymore. Writing good, original content will occupy my time from here on.

Link Building is still as important as it was. How ever with the passage of time links will become less important as there will be other factors to judge the Authority of a website.
