Is joomla good for membership sites (easy to manage)??

I have been using wordpress only till now, I have tried a lot of wordpress plugins for making my site into a membership site but I am not satisfied with any of them.

I have heard that joomla is good for these purposes. I do NOT know any php coding or whatsoever. Just basic HTML, so will joomla be suitable for me? Is it easy to manage once set up?

    Thanks

It depends on what you require. Joomla does have a lot of extensions that you can use for creating a membership site. Check out http://extensions.joomla.org for their extension directory.

If you have any questions or want help in creating your site please PM me. I will help in anyway I can. I can even make teplates via Artisteer for Joomla too.

    Happy Holidays :)

@eternalphonix thanks for making that clear but my main concern is weather i will need coding knowledge for running and managing a joomla membership site. Could you elaborate more on that?thanks

Well like I said it depends on whether or not you will need a lot of customization. That would require coding, but if you find an extension that suits you needs right out of the box then no you shouldn't need any coding knowledge.

Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Oh ok let me go and check out their extensions. Do you recommend any extension that might work for me? I need to protect some areas of my site which only paid members can see.

Well I would look at the ratings and reviews for some of them. Also try out their demos. I normally look for the non-commercial ones as these are free. I just looked and it seems like the ones with the best ratings are jcontentsubscription and vodes which let the user purchase credits and adds them to their account via paypal IPN.

Let me know what you find.

you don't really need to know php if you are going to use the default joomla extensons.

you should be able to handle joomla quite easily.

I'm using joomla 1.5, and I find it fairly easy. The most difficult thing for me is still the graphics...But for membership management I find joomla pretty easy.

What other functionality will you need? Take a look at joomlapolis for some good community building joomla addons.

Mighty Membership is the best for Joomla membership site now, besides it is easily extesible with other Mighty components, if need to add more functionality for your site later.

Its probably a whole lot easier for you to buy a tailor made membership software since you are not a web developer.
