I'm #1 with keywords I want in search engines, should I pay for yahoo listings anyway, or it makes no sense since i am #1 anyway?

If you are already at number 1 don't bother... if you should slip then maybe I would consider it.

I have listed some sites in the Yahoo directory and it has helped me tremendously but with the steep price tag many shy away.

Yahoo Dir link only redirects, not directly links, to your site. Crap! And guess what Yahoo doesn't value its directory at all, unlike Google which values DMOZ listing.

DMOZ is what you need. When in there, your site is universally recognised by all SEs including Alexa/A1. Traffic gains 100% promply.

We are currently listed here http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Sports/Skiing/
It's a PR6 page and for $300 it means that we are paying for 300/12= $25/month
    Not bad right?

But I will not be paying for it if I'm the #1 on that keywords. Because you might get a change to get listed for free because you're the #1 in SERP. :)

How do you explain this page? Looks like straight links to me.

Just because you are in one doesn't mean you shouldn't be in both.

Yahoo would give your domain more trust and you would rank for more long tail queries. Thats where the traffic is.

Yahoo really values sites that are listed in it's directory.
It is expensive for the average webmaster but if you run a business then 300$ per year is not that much.

Well, you're wrong. My site, fxfisherman.com is in both. After in yahoo dir, no traffic rise from Yahoo search whatsoever. 0% gain.

Prove it! Show us the traffic stat of increased traffic after it's listed in yahoo dir.

Mad4 isnt saying you will get traffic, but most definatley you should if you have good content websites, and not the average joe blogs myspace resource site. Yahoo is an authoritive website, a link from there is good

So just because it did nothing for your site that means that all sites will perform exactly the same. Right.

From a pr stand point it is not worth the listing. But with a directory as powerful as yahoo pr should not be the reason you submit there. It is worth the money. And as mad4 said all sites will not get the same benifit, it depends on the category you submit to.

Well, the question is "is it worth to be listed in yahoo?" and i told MY EXPERIENCE! It is nothing but my experience seeing the REAL benefit of listing in DMOZ vs Yahoo Dir.

Hmm... everyone should instinctively never generalise from a person's experience. We're adult! (maybe you're not)

I did a brief search on Google and saw a thread in Sep 06 mentions that Yahoo Dir now give direct links. Ppl on Aug 06 and before reported that yahoo was still using 302 redirects. My site was listed in Yahoo Dir around that (while yahoo was migrating to Yahoo Express or something).

Oh, while there is a positive point about direct linking. Yahoo Dir now lists new sites on the top of older ones, so good for new submission, but when it ages, it'll go to page 2 or 3.

If your theme is a common search
then you will get good traffic from
    Yahoo directory alone. That's what
I think most important. And also
the PR recognition is so higher.
