I don't think it is for real. How about DMOZ, Yahoo Directory, Business.com and more? All listings are from spammers?
His or who's name? I'm saying that the majority of link directory submissions will be from spammers... I'd say close to 85% and more will be spammy submissions.
See my tagline. The vast majority of sites listed in a reputable directory (of which there are many) were added by the directory staff, and most directories take steps to not even accept submissions from spammers, let alone listing them.
I've ran a half dozen directories in the past and made decent money with them. Shall we keep assuming in this thread or can we stick to the facts.
Is it worth starting a directory.... There are some good directories out there now. Many of these directories earned their reputation at a time when there were fewer hurdles to overcome and when Google actually recommended that website owners submit their websites to quality directories. Times were good - people wanted to submit to directories and they rarely scrutinized them because the listings could do no harm. Times are different and any approach to starting a new directory must be modified as well. Unless you have a good starting budget to work with, or just want to run a hobby site, I would think twice before starting a directory. Without a good budget and quality listings, it could take years before the directory starts earning money (if at all). Instead of starting a directory, allocate a small portion of your client's budgets to list them in high quality directories. Doing this will familiarize yourself with the unique characteristics each directory offers and whether or not you feel comfortable/have the budget to match or exceed their value. Even if you can create the platform (unique directory, good features, no empty categories with good listings), you still have to market the directory. Marketing a directory can take tens of thousands of dollars to do it properly. Otherwise your directory would be no different than the many other thousands of directories that are out there now, with most not earning enough to even pay the hosting bill.
this is thanks to google I suppose. If someone wants to start a directory will be looking for ways to make unique and possibly become popular directory. Only a few directories gives some traffic, most will give you links.
I think it is not bad ideas to start web directory if you have good concept to get success. Still web directories are working good and providing web information. However many web directories are focusing for earning money rather than storing right information.
