Oh I just checked the sites in your sig and they all seem to be pretty new - maybe you were right!

Hmmm exotic-pets... Seems like you could prob get your site somewhere in the top10 looking at your competition! :) Pretty hard to out do about.com though IMO.

Anyway good luck with your sites!

LOL, none of the sites in my sig belong to me, two belong to my Dad and the other to my nephew, who started just the other week (he's doing very well :)

I suppose I've only been on DP for about 8 months so thats when I count my experience as statrting. But I have had personal sites that I made on Fortune City about 6 years ago and have never touched since.

Ahhhhh right... hense the "my dads..." and "my nephews..."! Lol - sorry didn't really read the title just clicked.

Just talking about the exotic pets site, I think your nephew should change the colour of the ad unit. That green is horrible... Maybe to something like: "8BCE4B", which is roughly the same colour as the menu buttons.

Considering it's only been up for a few weeks it's good! Is it his first site or has he built some before? Using HTML kit huh? Never heard of it before but looking at the code it's a hell of a lot neater than FrontPage 2000, which is what I use for some bits.

Really need to change program I know but I don't have the time at the moment...

Yeah, it's his first site, it is based upon a template from Open Source Templates
Then altered to use div includes for ads/navbars

I personally use Dreamweaver, it is a very very good program.
I'll pass on the suggestion to my Nephew; he joined DP yesterday, so you may bump into him sometime in the future.

Yeah one day I want to move onto Dreamweaver as I consider it one of the best.

First I want to set-up all the sites I have planned though. Then I'm going to learn Java-script, PHP, Flash and after that Dreamweaver.

Anyway thanks for the template site! :D Looks like it could come it very handy! I'm really bad at designing logos and general page layouts etc...

The sites looking good. The change in colour for the boarder of the ad unit looks better. Looks like you are writing a lot of content :D You should get some more ads in there within the content in my opinion though...

That said I suppose you should concentrating on finishing the content off (initially) before concentrating on ads. :)

Just browsed through it really quickly but you could consider using the product links for Amazon products instead of just text links as it'll grab the attention of the visitor more.

In case you don't know what I'm talking about check out the bottom of this page:

    http://www.babykeepsakefootprint.ne...rticles/baby-names/unusual-baby-boy-names.htm

I know the amazon products are shown in a location that has very low exposure but I'm not really concentrating on Amazon...

Also just out of curiousity, how old are you? I'm guessing your probably around my age (20)?

Thanks for the advise bud, and sorry for hijacking the thread ;-D

I presume the amazon comment is about the caresheets page? They aren't meant to be adverts as such, I was initially just supplying links to the book pages on amazon because I recomend them, they are good books. Its only when my uncle told me that I could do it through the affiliate scheme that I figured it would be a wasted oppertunity not too. I don't really want to compromise the usefulness of the page by filling it with adverts. Thanks for the advise though bud, its all really useful.

    I'm 18 by the way

Ah right - well a few ads here and there won't comprimise anything in my opinion but it's obviously up to you. :)

And you're 18 huh? I started when I was 19 - wish I had started earlier though... So much more free time!

Well actually that's a lie - you get loads at uni but I've got exams coming up so don't have time recently...

Ok I'm just talking to myself now so I'll stop!

Are you sure they won't put the higher paying ads on your site anyway even if the keywords they were bidding on are kind of broad.

I optimized for a very specific keyword phrase Natural Acne Treatment and It seems like the top bids for Acne are the only ones shown on my site anyway.

    Guys,

Have you not heard of learning to write your own code from scratch? This way you can get your site to look exactly the way you want it and for the SE's to crawl it quickly.

I find these App's place way too much code unnecessarily.

I definatey agree that applications such as frontpage place a lot of useless code. However I haven't had the time to learn html properly yet (although I know the basics) so it's a good place to start.

Recently I also check the code afterwards to remove what I can but I have a long way to go...

Also I think rather than learning html, I'd rather learn PHP etc... as that'd increase the flexibility of my site and allow me to write useful scripts.

Oh yeah. Thanks for all the input guys - every little comment helps! :D

PHP is a dying idea. ASP is way better, easier to code and so many free scripts available and heaps more on the way.

ASP huh? Well I might look into that instead. I don't really know much about it so I'll need to do some research! :)
