Is it worth it to submit your blog posts to article directories?

As the headline says, do you gain anything by submitting your blogposts to an article directory with a backlink to the source? Or is it just viewed by google as double content?

And if that is the case it should probably exist some sort of plugin for wordpress to do just this - is there anyone out there that can be recommended?

If you post it to your site first (and it gets indexed) then submitting it to another site won't penalize you.

If your articles are unique then it would be better. Asides from the backlink your blog receives, anyone who reads the article will also have access to your blog. Its better to just submit about 1/2 of the blog article or a teaser article on the article sites so that users would get curious and are led to your blog.

Aren't all these article directories not already being 'spammed' to death with extremely low quality articles just for the purpose of linking to a crappy 1 article website? I doubt Google lets this go by unnoticed.

First of all: If there were no advantages to article submission why would someone do it? Think about it! By submitting articles from your blog or any other sites, you get links. The greatest advantage in this is the fact that most of the time, you can control the anchor text or the context for that link(the surrounding text). Another advantage is the traffic you can get if your article is well written. There are people who spend hours everyday on such sites searching articles for their own interests.

From the beginning the article sites were spammed. But there are a lot of people who can determine what is and what isn't spam. And these people can comment or visit your blog. Google can determine, based on human activity if an article is resourceful or spammy.

So my advice is> Submit as many articles as you want. But be sure are well written and also involve with the people who read it.

Make sure you have a link to your original blog post when you submit your posts to directories. It will help tell the search engine which text is the original. The downside is that the article directories will probably steal a lot of your long tail keywords traffic if your site is still new. They will be perceived as being a higher authority than your own site, meaning that they will rank higher than your site in the search results for those keywords.

But even so, I've had some luck with this technique. On a brand new site of mine, I submitted about 20 posts to article directories and in 7 days the site was receiving about 50 unique visitors per day (half from Google and half from the various directories I submitted to).
