Is it worth it to purchase PR 7 links or higher? Have you noticed a difference?

    Hi guys,

I have not found this exact discussion on the boards so here it goes with in depth info, but if there is something please PM me...

Is there any value in purchasing a PR 7 or higher link even though it doesn't bring in much traffic but it has a high PR value?

Something interesting we noticed is that one of our site had over 100 backlinks and one of them was a PR 7 on a related theme site, all the other links on other sites were mostly PR 5 and below (one or two 6s). When we took the site link off the homepage of the PR 7 (even though we got no traffic from it) our ranking dropped significantly.

This made me realize that there may be very good reasons for us to pay monthly for a PR 7 or two, instead of purchasing many PR 3 permanent one way links for example - though it is hard to tell if this goes for any PR 7 site for example.

Any ideas around this topic? Have you noticed a significant different when you got a pr 7 link or higher?

    Thanks guys!

Unless you're in the business of selling PR, don't buy links based soley on PR. If you do, you'll notice one big difference - your wallet will be lighter;)

If you have a link from a themed PR7 authority site, then yes it is very powerful and could be worth more than a bunch of PR3 links. But, if the PR3's are from clean neighborhoods and the PR7 isn't, then the PR3's could be more valuable.

You have to look at several things other than PR when acquiring links:

    1) Is the link themed well with my site (doesn't have to be perfect but should be similar).

    2) Does the site have what appears to be a "natural" set of backlinks? If the backlinks aren't well distributed (i.e. it seems all their PR comes from just a couple of site-wide links) then it could be in a bad neighborhood and not be of much help.

    3) Do the links out from the site seem to be well distributed. Again, you are trying to make a judgement call on whether the links are in a bad neighborhood and the better the distribution of incoming and outgoing links, the higher the liklihood the site isn't being penalized by being in a manipulated link neighborhood.

    4) Also, many sites that sell links don't pass PR at all so you have to try to make a determination before buying which can often be tricky.
