Is it worth it for me to buy a domain name?

Right now I am just starting out. My website currently is listed by a free domain hosting service and free web hosting (atspace). My website barely gets any traffic, about 50 uniques per day and about 0-50cents per day off AdSense. I wanted to kind of avoid buying a domain name until my website starts making consistent money. I have just been adding content to the site in hopes that eventually I will get more traffic.

Do you think a buying a domain name would do any benefit to my website, as far as gaining more traffic? Websites with a registered domain seem more creditable compared with a website hosted on a free service. Right now my website doesn't even get indexed by google =(

Well, if you bought a domain and hosting, you could definitely handle more traffic, which a free host might be unable to do.

Domains and hosting are cheap, if you are serious, you will make enough money soon

Yes, having your own domain name is like having your own identity. Not only that, if you succeed, you are not giving your web host the credit or be locked in to their terms. With your own domain name, you will have the flexibility to move your site to any other host as and when the needs requires.

A domain name is just a few dollars a year or a few cents a month so it should not actually create a dent in your pocket.

Yes, of course a website with its own domain name and hosting will indeed be more credible. It takes money to make money. Free hosting and free domain name just locks you in too much conditions.

As all the replies suggest, you should buy a domain&hosting. It won't cost you too much (no more than $100/year),and if your site will get some decent PR,it's easy to earn that much.

like other said: Start from your own domain is better. In term of long run, it's better to have your own site as if you host in free domain, one day you may have difficult to get those return visitors to your new site as they may be used to your old site. hosting can be very very cheap (less than 50$ per month for some host)

Buying a domain and hosting is not a big thing these days. You better to buy them.

Buying a domain name would be a better idea then using that free ones.

    .org's 0.99
    .info's 1.99 and had even heard 0.99
    .com 6.95
    hosting $2 - $4.

You can surely afford that much.

Just buy a domain and hosting, it's so cheap that there's no point in using free services.

I would recommend buying the domain name. I have used namecheap.com for ages and it seems to be easy & fast & reliable (don't get scared because of the name - it's reliable registrar for Enom domains)

Then, if you worry about AdSense income, perhaps you could sell links in your Digital Point signature or sell some links via these DP forums? I'm sure there are people who might be interested in purchasing links from your site? These measures would help you pay the domain name and probably also the webhosting fees.

It's been years since I've ever even considered using free hosting... domains and hosting are so cheap these days, it's almost a crime to not have your own. If you get hosting and you're serious about making money, get a reseller's account that you can grow into. I don't sell hosting but use a reseller's account for all my developed domains.
