I am thinking of going to ITT-tech for IT, but not sure how well that would be for me in the long run, does anybody know how well these type of jobs pay?

I don't know much about IT, but I know that it is a career in demand, just wondering though would it be worth spending all my limbs to go to school for it, if I couldn't even find a decent paying job after school?

IT is and will always be in demand.

However - if you are good at something, you will always find a job.
If you are better than average, you'll get paid better than average. No matter what type of job you do.

You say you don't know a lot already about IT. Yhis doesn't matter, you'll learn quickly.
But you should be sure you know what you begin and you will like doing it.
If you don't know a lot now because it doesn't interest you, then it will probably not interest you later.

So my advice would be to find out what you like to do and study that.

If you take a career decision based on what you heard you may earn in the future but don't like doing it, you'll get burned out after a few years, or you won't be motivated to keep up through studying or do a good job..
so you won't earn a lot as you're not a good employee..

Agreed. Alway6s ensure you know what it is exactly you enjoy doing in IT. One of the upshots of learning anything at a higher level is that your 101 classes usually give you a good indication of what direction you want to go in. Failing going to IT you could always go for your MS Certs which usually lead to good jobs as well. But ensure you enjoy what you do or as flippers has stated, you'll burn out. There's an old saying "find a job your enjoy doing and you'll never work another day in your life".

I am an IT student myself and amidst the global woes, IT remains a better recruitment option I guess.. as compared to the banking sector and fin. sector, atleast!

Go and get a job as a coffee maker at an IT company, and work your way up in the REAL WORLD. Study at home.

I know a few people that have spent years (and thousands of dollars) at uni earning various "IT" certifications and qualifications, they have incredibly impressive CVs, but their knowledge is purely academic. Faced with a REAL WORLD problem, they can't even work from a DOS prompt. Which is why we have idiots running the IT departments of some of the largest corporations, universities, and governments on the planet.

But if you simply want a decent job, and to work 9-5 until you die. Go for it :)

This isn't necessarily true. There are people who graduate from uni and put into practice what they have learned.

Maybe it just depends on the uni then.

imo, just get into a good school :) just strive hard and you'll earn money. whatever path you take. :) just because you got a degree in IT doesn't mean a guaranteed high paying job. You have to work hard for it.

unless you enjoy doing what you are learning , you'll end up being one of those who cannot implement what they have learned into practice..

your interest is all that matters..

    cheers

I think it probably depends on the person more than the uni. If you're really into whatever you're studying, you'll be learning by yourself outside of university/college anyway.

Both my parents were senior university lecturers, I grew up around academics - and they honestly scare me with what they don't know about their subject matter (my parents included!).

Most of them are simply "re-teaching" what they were taught.

You must find the answer to the question "Are you interested in IT ?"
If yes, you should go to IT schools .

Thanks all!! Yes, I am very interested in IT, I would rather have a job that I enjoy going to, rather than not going to college at all and getting a job in a steel mill.

I am really considering going to ITT-Tech school for IT, and for once I will actually try to learn something!!

Go for what you think that you can be good at, I am A IT graduate here in the Philippines and I am Good at some field, you can great a lot of job because it is in demand but don't pick a course because only it is in demand because if your not happy to it you will it succeed just stick to what ever you like.

Definitely interested in IT, it would be nice to have a white collar job rather than a blue collar job like everyone in my family.

But I am not sure what kind of job I could get with a degree in IT, could somebody please explain? exempli gratia, working as a support technician for comcast?
