Is it Worth Creating forum profile Backlinks to websites

I have seen so many people creating backlinks with high PR forums and most of them are profile backlinks or signature links. I too have several packets containg such links but I am not sure whether they are good enough or not. I have not created backlinks from those packets. Is it worth creating backlinks from them or will it be just a wastage of time.
One more thing I want to know is that - do such backlinks have any negative impact on SEO or your page rank.

Simple. Key those keywords into google that those sites are trying to rank for. Do they rank well for it?

some may get index, most probably wont, but sending a bunch of unrelated links back to your site may not be good idea.
I have done profile linking here and there, and have had no luck with it, lots of those profile sites are so off-base that
I could never see how good would help me out as they are so unrelated, if anything, it would have hurt me....

Its like having a hamburger site, and you are getting hot dog links to link back...

They maybe a food, but they are also completely unrelated....

Well, it all depends on how POWERFUL your profile is, and how strongly is your presence felt on a particular forum. If your profile gets several views daily, then it'll get indexed and even may get a PR, especially if it's on a highly popular forum!

Some of my competing sites in my niche have reached top 3 in google with 90% forum profile links. This is a hugely competative keyword and his site has been there for 6+ months atleast. I used to think like you guys like they didnt work but apparently they worked for this guy. Ill agree with you guys on saying most wont get indexed, but if you use a service to ping your profile you may have a better chance at getting it indexed and picked up by google.

Still, the best thing to do is go to forums and post GOOD threads and posts with your signature. This way you're contributing to the forum without just SPAMING away and threads have a much better chance of getting indexed and picked up by google.

in my opinion all links count, no matter if they're in a different niche, or if they're page rank is low as hell. only reason i think they don't count is if they're nofollow.

EXACTLY. Build up your forum profile, build links to your forum profile, make sure it's indexed!

Better question, why would it get indexed? What use does google have adding your profile page to its index??? A user account a forum that never made a post surely has no relevancy and would never be a usefull result to show in the search engine, so why would it index it??? See above

You have A LOT to learn about SEO.

Yeah have to agree with the above poster, when I first started dabbling in SEO I pointed tens of thousands of cheap forum profile links at websites I owned in numerous niches. My experiences ranged from the sites being sandboxed by Google and never showing up in SERPs at all, or the10k links being just enough to get the site indexed around page 5-6 in the SERPs... Google just doesn't "care" about the forum profile links... especially when these profiles have no rep or posts attached to them.

Stick to links from sites related to your niche, or .gov/.edu links.

They are still backlinks and could help you site in the eyes of the search engines. But don't rely to much on them. Look for other backlink sources. Variety is also a good thing to keep in mind when building backlinks.

If you do it the right way it will help you very much. The right approach is to tell Google that your profile backlinks exist otherwise they won't be counted. Because these profile backlinks are buried for google (google can't detect them) you have to ping all those backlinks and to bookmark them. Google will then index them and they will be of great value for you especially if they are high PR Backlinks. This is the only right approach if you build these backlinks otherwise you will waste your time and it would be better for you to submit articles.

IMHO Google might just be as smart as people want or fear it to be. Anyone who boasts about sending 10K of links are talking about black hat auto posting to forums which should get them banned from the forum and by google in the searches. Technology is getting better not dumber, and the more people who play by the rules, the cleaner these forums will be. Like others have said, if you make great original posts with genuine help, you will become an authority, people will visit your profile and you will rise in ranks. All a spam post will do is get the email and user banned, so you can start your ten post journey again,

    There is an example:
I did a test on one of my freshly registered sites, took a long tale keyword with 6k monthly views
I was doing 10 profile links (+signature if possible) every day for nearly 2 months, that's it- it is on #9 at the moment on .com
No other things done to the site, site's nature - WP autoblog

So it is hard to say what works and when, you will always have to try different things, but this test has proved me- that profile links can do the trick, but obviously...i would never depend on this like the only marketing strategy.
