Is it wise to put a large content rich site under a lower content domain?

Would it make a difference? Would it help the lower content domain or would it merely hurt the high content subdirectory site?

    Thanks!

from my understanding, subdomains count as all together different domains....

    Yes... I know that.

What I am asking is whether or not it would be a waste to put a content rich site into the subdirectory of a non-content rich site instead of giving that content rich site it's own subdomain.

if you add the rich content in the directory it's like adding content to the poor site, so this will improve it.. i don't consider it a waste

Using subdomain or subfolder makes absolutely NO difference. However the only "asthetic" difference is what people see, for example articles.mysite.com OR mysite.com/articles

To be honest I prefer the latter in most situations however if you "feel the need" to create a whole new site (as far as seo is concerned) then go for the subdomain!
