Is it Vital to have your main keyword in your domain? does it improve search engine ranking a lot? and if it did, could i get away by not including my keyword in my domain? http://hardearnednotes.blogspot.com/
Yes, it does. Search engine ranking, google indexing, the works. However, if you have a catchy domain name, you could use it and then use other traffic methods to improve your ranking.
Ok well i was wondering because my blog is:http://hardearnednotes.blogspot.com/ Main keyword is: earn extra money The topic is about earning money on the internet Would that fit as being a "catchy domain name"?
Here is the deal, although keyword in domain does help a little in terms of seo, but its not necessary and it certainly isn't a deal breaker. If the domain is available, then get it, if not, don't sweat it. Just register a simple domain and focus more of your effort on creating quality content and seo. Let me give you a few examples of big and small sites ranking well for their keywords, but their domain has nothing to do with the keywords they rank for: CNN.com- ranks #1 for "news"! johnchow.com- he ranks well for a verity of keywords related to blogging and making money online. forums.digitalpoint.com: ranks #1 for a lot of keywords related to internet marketing, blogging, web design, seo,.... I can find you thousands of examples like that. But, our time is better spent on actually working on our sites. Do you see any of those keywords they rank for in their domain?... And here is my personal experience: My domain is BlogStash.com. I rank #2 and 3 for "best ways to make money online", "best way to make money online", "make money with facebook" and many other online money making keywords. But, my domain doesn't have even one of those words in it! As I said, if the domain is available, go for it. It helps a little. If not, don't worry. It all comes down to creating quality content and specially building a lot of quality backlinks.
It can work well, but it is no guarantee. I have about 80 blogs focused on low competition keywords, and they all have the exact three keyword phrase as the domain. Quite often my sites will rank at the top of page one in Google, with only a dozen backlinks, ahead of sites that have thousands of backlinks. But I also have many sites that don't rank well at all, no matter what I do to them, and they have the keyword in the domain, and are built the same as the winners. There is no guarantees with Google.
Instead of having http://hardearnednotes.blogspot.com why not have http://earnextramoney.blogspot.com
It's not vital, but why not have your keyword in your domain name?... it can only help your rankings.
it is not available, and i wouldn't want it any longer than that because people won't be able to memorize it
Most of the time you will be unable to get an exact match or even close to matching domain name. I rank well for keywords that are not entirely in my domain name. I look for domain names that are relative to the topic, easy to remember, and sound professional. If i'm selling a product, I think that is more important than using dashes or other gimmicks to get all of the keyword in a domain name. This is my opinion anyway.
