Yes it is true that directory listing can improve in the promotion of your site. It can promote your website because can just search through the directory and if you're lucky enough people can actually flock to your sites. But the most important thing is you promote your site and the contents are really what readers needed to learn and see. Your site should be really meaningful and useful at the same time so that it gains popularity.

 

No amount of backlinks and submissions can help a shit website, if your content, posts, sites are shit then nothing can help... if you have decent content - then sites will link to you by their choice... wasting your time building any type of links to shit sites - so your primary goal is to create a decent site before you promote anything.
