Yes Directories are very useful for boosting specific keywords, but as we know bad good exist every where so out there the WORLD WIDE WEB is flooded with many of web directories that are worth nothing and just a junk of making spams.

While true for any website, in strong niches this rule is especially important. Link diversity and link velocity is a major key in offpage search engine optimization.

Some under estimate the value of directories though and believe it's an out dated practice. This is very questionable thinking. I dare to say it's on the borderline of ignorance. We have, for example, ranked a ONE PAGE website, horrible design made in 5 minutes. Actually the whole setup process, from domain registration to the end "product", took us around one hour. And this medium competition keyword now ranks on top positions of google. The only thing we did is submit it to a good number of directories.
