Is it true that Bing server runs on linux?

    No the Bing server runs on a highly modified Windows 7 kernel at least that's AFAIK .

    It would be ridiculous for microsoft to run their search engine on a server with an OS different than theirs. :D

    Dude Bing does not runs of Linux server. Microsoft will not do that ever.

    Breaking news for you guys who think Microsoft would never do that, for many years, Hotmail ran on FreeBSD and only converted entirely to Windows servers a couple years ago.

    but i read that they depend on akamai which is very secure and uses linux.

    Its true that it does not run on linux, but depends on akamai cdn, which uses linux according to netcraft.

    This is your misconception that Bing run on Linux and Microsoft does not believe their own server. Microsoft is not so confidence less company that they can't believe their own ability/capability. May be you missed some information. Be sure and post exact information.

    they have thier own windows server editions they can just use that or maybe they programmed a whole windows server for thier servers :p

    Hotmail was at not at the beginning a product of Microsoft, they bought it so its possible that they decided to change after considering it for some time.

    I know hotmail used to run on Unix but they have since migrated it to Windows Servers, I do not believe Bing run on non Windows platform

    I don't see any reason(even for MS) why anyone should run anything on windows platform. Even bill gates knows how crappy his OS. :p
