is it true that 95% of SE traffic comes from 4 places?

i read somewhere that it is not worth to spend money to get a company to submit your site to 200 SEs when 95% of traffic comes from G, Y, MSN and....i think it was AskJeeves. This true?

Seems to be fairly accurate from what I am seeing. Just checked my Jan. statistics for one site and found it indeed was 95%. I only worry about the big three Google, MSN, and Yahoo.

yup it's very true.you don't need to waste enormous amount of time and money trying to get your company listed in the milleu of SEs, as the mammoth traffic is generated by the search engines you have mentioned. so better get started directing your money to the right source.

What? You mean there more search engines out there? Never would of thought? Just joking but the truth doesn’t fall to far away from this. People only know how to use the 3 SE. I personally use www.a9.com but that is google powered so it’s most probably counted as google.

And out of that 95% Google is going to be a huge chunk. Depending on your industry it can be as much as 60%.

This is the main reason the submit to 1,000 search engine packages are useless.

Sounds true to me, some stats:

    Google Images: 87.3%
    Google: 5.6%
    Yahoo: 4.9%

    That is 97.8% :)

99% of my SE traffic comes from the Big 3, but that's probably because my site is tech oriented and most tech people know about and use the popular search engines.

Another Fact; those companies offering massive submission packages either use automated scripts that are rejected by most search engines or mislead people because I read they consider "Search Engines" all sites accepting submissions, including small directories and FFA boards among others.

I can see on some old sites of mine that more than 50% of traffic comes from google alone ...

But for blogs Technorati brings in a lot as well. This is very vital way to gain a good amount of traffic.

some of my smaller sites get a decent amount of traffic from altavista~
    but overall my figures are
    Google 59%
    Yahoo 22%
    MSN 7%
    Other SE's 3%

rest from link trades and such

I would agree actually. Now almost 80% of the search engine referrals came from Google and Yahoo. Pointless to submit to all other search engines.

A search engine like A9, that is google powered, is considered what? Or what will be displayed of stats? Will it display as a google or an A9 query?

I find that only a small amount of my site's traffic comes from SE's anyway. I only really worry about Google, MSN and Yahoo.
