    Is that true?

    Yes, when acquiring backlinks always use the same Url

    Meaning, if you start using www. your-site.com... stick with it

    Agree with Vstar, to make things easy you can edit your .htaccess file so that the other versions redirect to the 1 version of the URL you'd like to use.
