Is it too late to join the Internet Marketing Bandwagon?

Is it too late, or can someone really get into the business today and make an honest living doing so? If so, what is new? what can one do to stand out? How much time does it take? How much effort is need? Where do you go for help? (This forum has been a lifesaver).

I ask this cause watching my traffic grow has been like watching grass grow, I am trying everything in the textbook. I know I can always do more but I want to know if it is worth the effort. I have big plans for my little website.

Just needing a little motivation I guess.

I personally don't think it's too late. The internet is growing each day and so there is a chance to make a living from it.

It all depends what you are marketing on how well you will do. If you can find a niche that you are also passionate about you have more chance of doing well, just working on something because you have heard is doing well for someone else just won't do.

You ask: how much time does it take/how much effort is needed is like asking how long is a piece of string it is different for everyone.

I will say though put as much effort and time as you can afford to give and more to get started, read as much information as you can and create multiple income streams (relying on one source of income can come back to bite you on your bum!)

In life it is never too late, and the internet is a new market only around 10 years or so.

What you need to focus on is work, work and more work, I am certain that you will continue to gain experience here from the DPer's they are a good bunch of helpful people

Keep on going and good luck

I think britishguy hit the nail on the head. There are more and more opportunities everyday, precisely because it growing so fast. But you'll have to put those work hours in if you want to make something of it.

I would wager a guess that more then 50% of the members here that make their living online (or at least a good chunk of income) started in the last 12 months.

It isn't about "missing the boat", its about how much info you can learn in a short time.

Its never too late. And the reason is.....most people still arent online. I think of the total advertising market the internet only makes up 7 or 8%. Only place to go is up!

All of these responses to Tabs ariginal post sound great, but where do you start at making a living off the internet?

You hear about lots of people creating junk sites with no real product and link them all to other sites of theirs, but where does the money come from?

what are some examples of online businesses? How do you make money from hosting a forum? Or as i read before in this forum some guy is making money on an image website... umm HOW?! and what is the income? I have the time, the hardware, software, dedication and cash to start something i just have no clue where to begin.

    thanks

You could sell information products...still the biggest money maker on the net, as millions of people are always searching for information.

Pick a nice niche and develop it...have an interest in growing dahlias?
That could be a nice niche to reach out to gardeners of all kinds.

To monetize a site, it depends on what kind of site.
Some sites are brilliant for google adsense, others for affiliate programs.
It is up to the webmaster to test what will make money on a site.

Then there is promotion. There is no such thing as putting up a site and the people will come.
The people have to know the site is there, what it is about, will it interest them, etc.

There are many niches that are not fulfilled yet. Adsense and other affiliate programs are not easier than any business in the real world.

Anyway no business get a ROI (return on investment) in 1 week. Not even Google or Toyota did it.

Let alone a website by a webmaster.

Best example are myspace, youtube etc, create a brand and involve consumers, they'll take the authenticity easily of a particular brand as people are spending a great deal of their time and attention on such site.

    Hi,

I think the Internet has an unlimited supply of possibilites to make money! Personally I started in the graphics niche, which I already had some talent and experience in. From there it has grown quite a bit - I now have 101 domain names that are slowly being filled. It will take quite a long time on some of these sites, but many of them tie in together in one form or another.

It is a bit hard to do sometimes, I'm a mom of two YOUNG boys, 4 and 19 months. The kids take over all day, and most of the evening. Everything is done while the rest of the house sleeps - so it's slow going for me!

It can be done however, you just have to put your mind to it and keep plugging away. One day it will pay off in a big way, and you'll be pleased that you took the time and effort to build, build, build!

Check my sig for a free report that I just wrote recently, on how to break into IM with graphics. I've seen many smart people do this, and it works. I've been doing it for over a year now with just one website. Have been learning and studying for over two years. Give it a shot though, you won't be sorry!

    Good luck!
    Thanks!
    Michelle

The answer to your question is yes. The only thing left to join is the hardworking webmasters bandwagon.

No, it's not late at all. But you need to ask yourself what value you can bring to your prospective customers? And, how are you going to differentiate yourself from your competitors.
