Is it time Adsense gave the option to filter keywords?

I'm thinking of my continual problems and ever growing URL filter list to stop my blog content adverts being about blogging, and being about the actual blog content. Sometime is works, sometimes I write a piece with great and varied content about one specific thing and then get p'd off because the ads are all for blogging...

My thoughts are that AdSense should add a keyword filter alongside the URL filter. Has there been a call for this in the past? I did a quick search of the forum and couldn't find anything. To my mind it'd be a great addition. Then I could block adds for :blog, bach, flowers, blogger & blogging - then maybe the content I write could get some attention. :)

Anyone else have thoughts on why this wouldn't work or could be a bad thing, and anyone have any thoughts on how it could be suggested to AdSense?

    Per adsense email:

Site targeting: focusing on the audience

The keyword-targeted ads that you're used to seeing on your pages will now be joined by a new type of site-targeted advertisement. Site-targeted ads allow advertisers to select the specific sites they feel are most appropriate to their campaign, and to run their ads only on those sites.

We believe that advertisers will leverage both our traditional keyword-targeted advertising which runs across the entire AdSense network, and our new site-targeted advertising, bringing more ad dollars to publishers.

That doesn't really address my point - I'm wondering about not having ads for certain keywords on my site - these new features are still out of my hands - it won't be me deciding what keywords or site audience to pump related ads to me.

    Thanks though :)

    Dio,

i totally agree with you and i can't imagine why they have not implemented this (perhaps is too much work to implement/enforce?). anyway, i hope they are working on it. i would love to see keyword filters at least for the entire acct and maybe even for page and ad unit level.

    At this very moment there are 2 'b l o g' ads on top. That's because you mentioned the word b l o g a dozen times. Delete all b l o g related words from your b l o g and you'll never see the ubiquitous b l o g ads.

As far as I'm concerned I've cut the use of the word to the bare minimun - even removing the whole thing from blogspot.com to my own non-blog in the URL site.

That has worked on some of the posts - the Amityville Horror and Shogun Assassin psots had a smattering of related ads - the rest of the posts (bar 1) don't really concern themselves with blogs - its just a passing mention.

Taking out all the blog words is not an option - its a blog - but filtering it would be an option. ;)
