Is it still good to buy links to your site?

Selling and buying links are customary for big companies though, weird google doesn't take notice, but maybe because there is a lot.

I personally don't mind offers though, I have PR 3, I think it's good.

 

Buying links from quality sites with HighPR is fine

 

In highly competitive niches buying links can mean the difference in being in the 1st serp or never making it past the 5th.

 

I think that you are confusing PR with SERPs. PR *is* as Google and other posters describe - a factor of how many pages link to yours, the PR of the page linking to you and how many outbound links your page has. The 'other factors' are taken into account when the SERPs are computed.

This is why there is all that advice on this forum to focus on SERPs not PR

 

However much google might frown on buying links there's little they can realistically do about it, Dont make it obvious if you sell links yourself.

Good sites to buy from are those that already sell to competitors higher up the SERPs for your keywords. I f you were to get a penalty from google at least the competing sites will be hit the same
