Recently we had developed a web application (php/mysql script) for promoting live music events and for hiring Artists. I am trying to sell this script with exclusive rights using social media such as LinkedIn and Twitter. And, I tried in DP also. I am planning to close this sales even if someone wants to buy it at price equivalent to development cost. i-e I am willing to sell it without expecting any gain as I believe this sales will bring future business opportunities. But till now the social media marketing didn't help to close this sales. It looks like people are not telling about this sales to their network contacts who may need this script to start their online business easily with minimum budget. I surprised to see that similar scripts are selling at very very high price at market places eg flippa.com. But listing in these sites will need fees and other costs (e.g domain cost) Compared to the gain, spending fees and domain cost will be less only. i-e I can get more gain by spending some additional money. But I prefer to avoid use of these market places. Because I prefer to share the gain with our customer than giving the fees to the third-party. Now my question is, Why market place sites are more powerful than social media ? (Considering great success of open source concept, ideally social media should be powerful than market place sites) And, if couldn't the close the script sales using social media, is it really easy to sell the script using the paid services such as flippa.com? i-e Is it easy to sell a script at higher price using paid services instead of selling the same script at lower price using free social media?
Social media is the wrong place to sell a PHP script. I wrote a few Perl scripts back in the 90s, put them on Matt's Script Archive and made $10,000 in a week.

Yep, that is it. I don't think you're going to get someone to buy the exclusive rights. Those that can would rather hire programmers to make their own custom software.... which you can't beat. Custom rules.
Yes, This kind of script needs custom developments. That's why I choose exclusive rights sales than selling multiple copies. We can do any kind of Custom changes according to the specific requirement of the script buyer. i-e we will be getting more business opportunity. That's why I am planning to sell the script without any gain. Only thing is, I am trying to find the buyer with Good feedback/itrader so that we can maintain smooth long term business relationship. In short, I am trying to sell this script to a Buyer who can run a successful site using this script. It is a win-win approach. The buyer will get the script for low price and we will get long term business opportunity. Our Team is having good experience in php/mysql to handle any of the custom changes.
I'm being honest, I don't think you're going to get anyone to buy it. Did you write is hoping to make a site with it or you just wrote it out of blue thinking someone would buy it?
It is not a problem. We will run our own site using this script if no one is going to buy this script in next few days. As I said earlier, I am not seeing this as "script sales" but looking for a buyer/person who can make this as a most famous one among music industry so that both of us can get benefit.
You would probably have better results developing a site and running the script on it. Then try and sell the site with the script in it at flippa or another similar site.
