This is typical DMOZ mentality. If nobody mentions the problem then there is no problem because nobody hears about it. The problem is not with corruption, the problem is people who are fighting the corruption because let's face it, if nobody complains, we can pretend that everything is fine.
The problem is not that DMOZ editors repeat the nonsense answers, the problem is that people dare to ask.

I am not that sure about that. At least sometimes it seems to be a defence mechanism and it also proofs a lack of phantasy.

Gworld, you're an editor. Why don't you make it easy and give us the answers?

If you read my postings, I have already given you the answer. The BS about a feedback system is just going to help the spammers is just that a BS.
A functioning feedback system will not only improves DMOZ image but will lower the number of submissions and the load on the servers but then some editors can not play the almighty as they do now. ;)

Gworld, I have a question for you...

As you know, there is nothing in the guidelines preventing editors from giving feedback. I'll do it when I have a reason but it's very rare that I get a response from the submitter. In fact, I couldn't begin to tell you how many times I've taken the time to write to a submitter only to have the email bounce. I wonder, as an editor, do you contact submitters? And in your experience, do they respond or is it usually a waste of time?

I can be dense sometimes so I still try. Maybe I should talk to minstrel about that. ;)

No idea what gworld thinks about that. I would not have thought so. Isn't that a little bit hypocritical?;)

I noticed in internal forum how happy you were about my ban. I bet you were disappointed that the result of all that work was just 1 week and then it all backfired when pagode was fined out and was banned. No wonder there is no happy faces posting in that thread anymore. ;)

The almighty and self-righteous Gworld and more of his BS about fighting corruption. Gworld, has it ever occurred to you that you're part of the problem - a corrupt editor. You know, the ones that people complain about over and over.

Here's Gworld's daily schedule of BS, which is pretty canned in and of itself:

Am - Spout self-righteousness about how he’s trying to make the Internet a better place by battling the evil Dmoz. LOL, man, that’s just too funny Gworld. You really have put yourself on a very high pedestal. You had better watch out, because, you know what they say, the higher they are, the harder they fall! Maybe he thinks he's the Internet's Joan of Ark?

Noon - Spout integrity (although I doubt he even bothered to look up the word) about wanting to bring to light all of Dmoz's misdeeds, but leaving out the fact that he's a corrupt editor with several accounts and underlying reasons for wanting to "expose" Dmoz for what it really is, especially in adult, where Gworld has an invested interest. Let's face it, the words "Gworlds integrity" is an oxymoron. So, Gworld, did you join Dmoz just to list your own sites?

PM - Spout about his good reasoning skills while he writes more BS that doesn't make sense simply because he knows he can fool the uninformed. The sad part is that he probably thinks he makes sense. :D

Midnight - Think of other ways he can fool the gullible DP members with more smoke and mirrors deception.

Let's face it Gworld, I may have fewer posts than you, but my integrity is intact. You have proven yourself with your nonsense posts to be unreliable as far as the truth goes, to be deceptive in your written words, and to outright lie and make false claims against others. So, Gworld, I’d say that the Devil has more credibility than you.

    I'll bite.

This is the theory. As an editor you concede that a large proportion of sites in many parts of the directory are spam? If you give feedback on site status automatically it tells the spammer that their latest attempt has been unsuccessful and they can try and fool another editor, maybe in another category. Or adjust the site. Another reason is that as you will know as an editor, and as others with any intelligence will assume, DMOZ has spam filters. If a spammer checks site status and it never arrived then they will know they got caught in the filters and need to do some modifications. The war against spammers is a real one and is the primary reason why many categories are effectively abandoned by editors and why good sites are often buried in a mountain of crap.

There are other reasons - the technical resources to set up and maintain a feedback system and the server loads too. Resources are finite and choices have to be made. Editor tools are the priority. And DMOZ is not a listing service - a feedback system gives weight to the argument that it is. And finally manual feedback used to be given in Resource Zone and it caused a lot of arguments and frustration.

It may be that a feedback system might possibly work if the resources were available. It may be that some non-spammers would be interested in the status of their site, though that information is of virtually no use to them - the site is listed, rejected, or waiting and the submitter cannot influence either of the last two options either in terms of result or time.

In this respect DMOZ is not interested in its image - its image amongst submitters, webmasters is unimportant since it provides no service to this group of people. The image that matters is to users of the directory. Very few users actually complain.

That is your personal opinion - other editors disagree. That doesn't make it BS just because they disagree with you.

I am sure there are some editors with a power complex though they are not as commonplace as you would like others to believe.

Nothing in the guidelines prevents any editor from giving a status check as long as they don't breach confidentiality. You can do it if you want. There is a preference not to give status information to suspected spammers but many editors have done so and none have been disciplined. The information is not secret or protected which doesn't support the concept of editors behaving as the almighty. You are perfectly at liberty to set up a feedback forum and invite fellow editors to join it and give out status checks - just because RZ has stopped status checks doesn't stop others - if loads of other editors are convinced by your arguments that status checks don't help spammers you should have no shortage of editors willing to help you prove that.

Actually, in my experience, bureaucracy generally functions to slow things down and create barriers to efficency. Those who work well in bureaucracies generally are those who learn to work AROUND the bureaucracy rather than in it.

What's wrong with it is that it isn't an answer. And then when gworld pointed that out, what we got from Enigma was the usual derisive Resourceless Zone attack on the person.

But don't bother asking people like sidjf or enigma - because it really doesn't matter what the question is for them - the only answer you'll get is straight out of the DMOZ can.

The reason you keep seeing the same questions and complaints, sid, is because your canned DMOZ responses don't answer anything.

Judging by what I've seen from you so far, Enigma, I wouldn't be hasty about boasting about your integrity. I don't know what personal definition of that word you're using but I'll take gworld's brand of integrity over yours any day of the week.

Brizzie, I wouldn't have wasted my time explaining it to him. He touts his good reasoning skills so much, that I'm surprised he couldn't figure that out all by himself. His intelligence is virtually non-existent. He spouts the same crude on the DP boards as much as he accuses other editors of spouting the same things. You can’t have your cake and eat it too, Gworld.

gworld, a word of caution: The RZ crowd at DMOZ has sent in the usual trolls and a new one to attempt to goad you into a response that they hope will get you banned again.

Resist the temptation. For one thing, they make it way too easy. For another, there is still work to be done and that is more likely to happen with you active here than you getting banned as a result of the puerile games of these pathetic little trolls.

Now, Enigma, this time I bite.
What I understand from your sour post is one thing. You are desperately trying to paint a black and white picture. Logically, you are on the good side. Would you be so kind and lift your big secret, are you editing in Adult, or elsewhere at DMOZ, and what are your vested interests?

I have no vested interest, especially none of the size of the almighty Gworld. No I have no interests in adult. Unless, of course, you call my vested interest as being someone who enjoys editing with Dmoz. :)
