Hello DigitalPoint members, I think that DP is the best platform to have a discussion on this very critical topic and this one is the correct section for that. (however Politics & religion is very close too, but I think this is not very much related to either politics and religion.) While preparing to work on an online business website with a Pakistani fellow (I am from India), I gave a lot much time to think about it and finally he got busy in his own project. Our countries hate each other, police deals badly with every suspected who has got connection with other country, rules are so tough that no one, even prime minister can not save you once you are even suspected. However I am not involved in illegal activities, but who will ask for details once I am in the jail? Who will protest that I was just doing my own buisness and not actually have a connection with the other country? I think this question must have arrived earlier in mind of people who have international business partners. We need to discuss this matter a bit, to increase our knowledge on government and police policies on issues like this one.
I would not involve myself with any person in business joint ventures even if he is from my own country... unless I know the other person very well... personally! Partners need to have time tested trust on each other and a mutual trust that remains long lasting, is not build in a day or month! Regards, RightMan
Well if you are just working online basically like logo/template/script selling i doubt anyone would even know which country you are from
Naaaaaaahhhh! ...I would suggest you ..Don't do online business with partner which you have never met ...yeah just do business with your close one ..so you can easily contact him anytime,,anywhere...and you can meet him so if he scammed you in business,,,then at least you can do anything ... (Fight lol )
as someone pointed out, it depends on what kind of business you are interested. If it is a hosting service or a logo sale, the most you lose is some bucks. If you wanna do some payment processing ( a.k.a money laundering ) or shipment services ( a.k.a aiding terrorism ) lol.. ur asking for trouble. Often the govts dont like unusual connections with unknown people between their key-watch-list. Unless, the profit is too huge to miss AND the risk is too easy to manage / understand, you can, else you must not.
Thanks to all your replies, But I guess you have not got the point. 1. I forget to mention about trust. What if I have complete trust, so say the buisness is such a kind that it doesnt require trust at all, may be freelancer type job etc. 2.I am not concerned about what will happen if the buisness partner betrays, I am keen to know that is not is possible that government or police trap you in suspect of illegal international connection, specially when you are dealing with people in Afghanistan, Pakistan and UAE.
Governments all around the world are capable of anything and everything. What will the Indian government will do if they find you doing business with an "illegal international connection"? Imprison you? Execute you? Fine you? If you have to resort to clandestine measures just to get a bit of programming done (or whatever it is), maybe it's worth learning how to do it yourself?
Well i think you are in right place to share your problems. About the query, it should be done some kind of officially so that you can deal with them if something goes wrong.
