Is it right to have merely one keyword phrase in Meta Tag?

The site that I created lately has over 50 pages that are effectively optimized for specific keywords and keyword phrases. According to me, the density is also perfect and even the interlinking is quite appreciable. Now, I was working on the Meta tags. But, I couldn’t figure out whether I should use one keyword phrase or all the keywords.

What I had thought was to include a target phrase in the keyword tag. Can you please inform me if there is any downside? What do you suggest; one target keyword phrase or all the keywords will work fine in the Meta keyword space?

Put one and then never give it another thought. The 3 major search engines, (Google, Yahoo, bing) have all said they don't use them. It's the least important 'seo task' you will ever do.

I agree with magda that it is no longer important to work hard on meta etc., because Google and all other major search engines will not pay attention to them. You should concentrate on keyword density and keyword relevancy, because now it is more important for SEO

I do agree with the above 2 posters that meta tags are no longer of the importance they used to be. But i have also experienced that it's not like they render no value to search engines. the only thing is search engines don't rely on meta keywords ENTIRELY anymore. I have not seen your site but based on my 4 years of experience I'd like to suggest that you should give it a thought to include LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords in your meta. (just one with each page; don't overdo else it'll kill your purpose.)

    take care

It takes me about 60 seconds to add Meta Keywords to a new page. So I do it, and I generally put in anywhere from 4 to 10 keywords. Can't hurt, might help. I'm willing to spend the 60 seconds, just in case there might prove to be some value to it (which there probably isn't).

Now the Meta Description is another matter entirely. I take pains to write that meta tag carefully, and to include at least the main keyword(s) from that page. The Meta Description stands a good chance of being the snippet that shows up below your link in the search results. And if the searched-for keyword is in your Meta Description, the search results will bold that keyword in the snippet below the blue link.

Agreed. If you have the option between one word in Title vs Keyword, take the Title. Title should have 4 to 10 words though.
