is it right ? Hospitals asking what Religion are you ?

Am I missing something here?
I would've thought that the reason is rather obvious.
Pragmatically speaking, this is a legal necessity.
Idealistically speaking, it is a matter of respecting an individual's choice, either in terms of treatment (pigs heart, non-vegetarian meals, etc) or death (burial, cremation, etc).
