submit to every free one, and weigh your best options to submit to big dir pay dirs. I would definitely suggest Rob, Chris, Jeff, and Malcolms (DirectoryDump, Alive, Aviva, and biz-king). You can use my tool to find the best fit for you if you want at:

Look in the services forum. You can find people that will submit you everywhere. Spend 30-40$ and you'll have hundres of free submissions.

well i would say pick the high pr paid ones like aviva / alive / v7n / sevenseek

they'll give you high ranking .... than submit to free directories ... pr 0 wud count for u too because that site won't stay a 0 for the whole life u kno ..

but it really depends on the owner and how they are promoting ...

alot of new directories are starting ... u can see here at dp and some of them are hitting the peak whereas others are not.. u just have to make a choice and go with your guts.

thts all i will say :)

Link back wise, I guess. Traffic wise, nah.

But regarding free directories... unfortunately there are tens and hundreds of new ones popping up every day. Reminds me a bit of the million dollar pixel webpages and the arcade sites at one time. So, looking at that, many won't last long. But since it'll take longer to decide whether this directory will stay or not, I suggest that you just look for some sites with at least a one PR and start submitting.

Not all directories are created the same, however, a link is a link and they will all add up to something, whether it be higher pr, better serps or even traffic in some cases. So get your site listed in as many locations as possible. But if you want your pages indexed faster and your links picked up quicker then I recommend that you start off by submitting your site to the directories listed here: http://www.avivadirectory.com/strongest-directories/ some are free some are paid.

Hi, how do you get on this list, do you need to have subscribed to Aviva or are they just picked up somehow?

First you have to own a directory, second run your site through this tool http://www.seomoz.org/page-strength and if you get a 5 or higher then your directory can be listed on the first page. You can still get listed on the site though but it will be on page 2.

Once you have ran your site through the tool then post your results here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=120550&highlight=strongest+directories and it will be taken care of, that's it.

i have had good success with directory listings
manually submit yourself when possible and use many different keyword rich but not spammy titles and descriptions

    Still learning about SEO.

If your site has say a PR3 and reasonable first page google results, what happens to your results if you submit the site to a few directories where the subpages are PR0 but the main site is say P5 or more...?

Will google penalise you for picking up a PR0 backlink.? or with you get some link juice for the main PR of the directory too..

Submitting to directories takes just a few seconds or minutes each (depending on complexity of navigation)... and they can always benefit you in the long term, so keep submitting!

No, google will not penalise your site for having a pr 0 link, pr 0 links can be just as good as links with pr, and if the homepage has a 5 then it is likley that the page you are listed on will pick up some kind of page rank.

To make a long story short, do not worry about the pr of the page right now, just stay focused on buidling links to the site and you will be fine.

    Hello...

Newer Directories are much different then in the past few years as now
Most offer more then one link like old versions did.
Now when submitting you are more then likely going to get that link as well as
a link on the details page + if its paid Directory some will now offer 3-5 links
on those detail pages which helps your inner pages as well as main.
Todays Directory isnt about going in and searching for a businesses or shops while their may be a few, most use search engines for that.
Its about getting your site to the top above others in your competing realm.
Thier are many powerful directories that can help any site go from rags to riches within a few short months as the Backlink count is still one of the most important ways of getting higher search engine rankings in most search engines as well as an important equation in googles alga......

    thx
    malcolm
