Hi friends, need a little help out here. currently m working on some keywords , having a lot of traffic but the problem that mu main competitors are the gov domains , i mean the site, and m trying hard busting links and with all king of white hat SEO but dint see a tingle in my result, after scratching a lot of things here i m back to my help desk. So here is my Question .. Can i out rank GOV domains for my keywords.. any possible solutions or response welcomed.. thanks in advance ...
usually GOV domains dont "compete" with any other site for ranking. if they are ranked high, then they got that ranking naturally. its hard to say whether you can outrank GOV sites or not. for some keywords, it would be almost impossible but for some terms, you can outrank them. all depends on your keywords and how much money/efforts you are willing to pour in.
Though I was sure about it, but still i was looking for a second thought. thanks for the reply mate. and what you said about natural rankings, then i think the gov sites are providing such services that they own prime ranks.... and about money i think...for naturally ranked keywords for a particular site..with EMD..and that a gov site with big domain age..it seems throwing in bugs is a waste if m not wrong ...any ways thanks for your reply..Sultan !!! Would like to hear more, if any other thought are there then do share them...
it depends on which keyword you're targetting.. if you are targetting a keyword which is containing that .gov website's name in it.. then its tuff.. but if its coming on TOP of you just because they have the keyword in TITLE then you can beat it.. just do more HIGH PR backlinking and that will do.. check that .gov site's backlinks portfolio etc to get more knowledge over their backlinks power.
One thing about most government websites is they don't change often. If you keep pushing out new content on the topic, you might be able to gain on them a bit that way. Also, look for ways to differentiate yourself from the government site where folks might link to you instead. Make the information more understandable (so much govt' stuff is written in circular terms), use more pictures, etc.
Thanks Mate for the information ...that something to Add on...and about the differentiation m a bit scared as, m into something which works as an affiliate to the GOV domain , so it a bit hard to push that thing, but the new content part was something that can be targeted with a lot of things... any ways thanks a lot.. and keep on adding Mates!!!

Why would it not be possible? EMD, gov, edu or what ever domain is just one of the many factors, just make sure you do better on the rest.
I had a little play a while back with > Gov 10 downing street infiltrated Just to see > Google UK result Third on page 1 LOL I was just taking the Micheal though... Although saying that I did add links to Great Ormonde Street Children's Hospital

No worries my little play about wiht Gov and Downing ST as well as David Cameron search terms was an experiment juts to tets this .gov .edu thing people are always harping on about Maneesh. What it proved to me (there are quite a few other search terms I tried other than the example) is that .gov sites still need to apply SEO as it is all a matter of beating them for the keywords you are targetting "what ever they be" by using those keywords in an on going on site strategy that bit by bit closes down your keyword phrases from slightly longer tail to shorter tail. If shorter tails are proving illusive try the slightly longer tail search phrases most likely to be used as related and close in on the shorter ones bit by bit. It might take time but it will pay off bit by bit as you build your assault. Just be careful on the ethics thing i regards to what you target with such sites as .gov sites and what they rank for
