Is it possible to optimise for Google.co.uk AND Google.com

    Hi.

I haver a site ranking superbly in Google UK - top 10 for 10 targeted phrases. Im also in the 20s - 30s ranking position in Google.com but I'm greedy! I'm trying to get on page 1 in .com too. ;)

Is there anything I could do to try to do this without compromising my .co.uk rankings i.e NOT switching hosting/webmaster tools geo location etc which could negatively affect .co.uk

Try to get more and more relevant one way links from .com domains and that will help you to achieve your goals.

Ok cool thanks I'll focus n acquiring a few more .coms. I've got a good mix at the moment (why I'm ranking well in both) but can focus more on .com now.

i used to think it was the geo location, as my site was listed around 1-3 for the main keyword in google.com, but after 6 months it was also added to google uk and ranked pretty much the same, i think its to do more with the geo location of people accessing your site, if someone from the UK accesses google.com then google adds your site to the UK index
if you have more question: please feel free to send a PM and i will help you.

comment on blogs and sites that has same content to your site is will be help for getting high rank. Try to get back links form many site not form a one sites because google consider only one back link from one unique domain.

Is your site a co.uk? If so - it is not going to be an easy task to promote it in .com.

Its possible to optimize for both. google.com itself takes the things and if you want to rank batter in google.co.uk than you should list up yourself in local directories of UK, and get backlinks form there....Its the best practice.

which .com are you checking on? (and ranking 20-30 in?)

I hate to maybe burst your bubble, but if you're looking at google.com in the Uk you're probably not seeing the same results as an American viewer looking at Google.com at all. not by a long way.

replace hl=en with gl=us in the search string or have a look through hidemyass.com or another American proxy for the true picture.

Thanks again for your thoughts - the site is a .co.uk domain. Still doing superbly well in google.co.uk - top 10 for main keyphrase and a lot of major brand names so cant complain. I'm trying to get more .com links from american sites to see if it helps me up to page 1 of Google.com too.

The answer depends on your domain name. If you have a .co.uk or .org.uk site for example, it will be hard to rank as well in google.com as in google.co.uk. Remember also that the google.com you see when searching in the UK is different to the google.com when searching in the US etc., i.e. when searching in countries outside the UK. It is likely that your performance in the US is way behind that in the UK.
