Is it possible to move all the sites hosted on a reseller account on Company X to another reseller account on Company Z? I'm fed up with my current host, constantly slow speed, downtimes, and no Awstats available, but have been hesitant to move the past few months because I have many sites hosted on the reseller and I think it may take some time to complete the move..
I'm interested in this as well because I have two different hosts, and would like to move the accounts from one to another.
I don't know of any way to move a block of reseller accounts without setting them all back up again. :-( I'm thinking of moving as well, but am afraid, because the last time I moved a site, it lost all its serps for months. But the server they are on really sucks. I have other accounts with same host on dif servers that are great. So I want to move to there. I don't know whats worse frequent down time or risk of loosing serps during a move. (I know a host change should not affect serps but it did in this case)
Hmm, that's the problem I haven't found Company Z yet. I'm still wondering if what I'm asking is possible before I go out looking for a new host for all my sites.
Ah. Well, I moved from a dedicated server to a dedicated server and reseller to VPS. I know with the dedicated server or VPS WHM module, the move is quite simple. If you want to retain the structure of the reseller accounts, ie all the resold account under the main reseller accounts, you may need your web host assistance. Basically if using Cpanel, what you can do is log into Cpanel in Company X, you should see a Dropdown box to switch to all your accounts cpanel. Go to Backup option and select 'Generate/Download a Full Backup' then set it to backup via FTP to your account in Company Z. Do this for all your sites. Then contact Company Z and tell them to 'restore' all the sites for you. After restoration, they can go to the server WHM module under 'Reseller Center' and do a 'Change Ownership of Multiple Accounts' for all your sites and change the ownership to your reseller account in Company Z. You will then need to set up the DNS Servers entries and that's pretty much it.
I see, thanks for your input. So that's the only way to do it? There is no faster and more "instant" way to get all the accounts transferred? Reason begin is that I have over 100 accounts on my reseller, most of which are sites I've sold to people over the year and they've forgotten to move it to their own host or just abandoned it.
Nope, there is no instant method which is reliable. Moving one at a time will ensure that the sites works flawlessly. Well, I think maybe it might not be a bad idea to write to all those customers who have not moved the sites over as yet. Give them a couple of weeks to shift while you do a backup locally of the sites. Then just move what is active over to the new host.
In WHM (under 'Transfers' section in left navigation) you can do a single or multiple cpanel account transfer(s) from another WHM/CPanel server These functions have certainly served me well!
Yes, but that is only applicable if you are moving from one dedicated server/VPS to another where you know the root password and such. He is moving from a reseller to a reseller so that is sort of not possible as he would not have the root password. Thus the only option would be to move site by site and that would not retain the reseller/site relationship.
