As I said, the million dollar homepage actually offered its customers something.

Anyone could try to sell anything for a million dollars (a painting, their virginity, a piece of toast that looks like Jesus, etc) but the chances of it happening are very remote. You have a better chance of becoming a millionaire by purchasing a lottery ticket than you do by trying to sell this stupid piece of art.

I am quite familiar with the video, and I do see the resemblance.

I just voted yes because I believe it is possible. But I don't mean he would be making it with his method.

He may get lucky to find a carefree buyer and end the auction the next day but that's business and why would anyone want to pay $1 million before there is a frenzy and the bid makes its way to at least half or more of his target price to indicate some real, believable demand and fierce competition?

So, I guess he needs at least fifty to a hundred million targeted visitors to his site in one year to get one sale; that's 1 or 2% conversion. Remember, targeted visitors in his case only means 100 million dogged art collectors for whom a million dollar is nothing. So that's an average of a whopping 273973 mad art buyers a day. My commercial intention keyword research doesn't indicate it but you can't predict the behaviors of billionaires using online statistics.

Hats off - to this fantastic idea, you never know...
    Good luck

For sure it is. Why dont you try the million dollar page (link above). You can buy a script, put it up, get some PR and voila! See, it is that easy.

    So true!

I personally believe that you'll make it. How old are you?

Anything's possible, it's possible for me to do a backflip right now. However it's 99.9% improbable.

No offense buddy, but you need to grow up. There are some things that are impossible - for example - stopping the oil flowing into the gulf for 80+ days.

Trying to sell artwork for a lot of money?

No, it isn't an original idea at all.

I am also contemplating to put up a billboard in one of the major cities. I think that might grab some of the media's attention. What do you guys think?

I honestly hope that the dude gets his painting sold. Then I'll be allowed to say something similar to "in your face!" to you and laugh my --- off. Selling a painting for $1 million is not possible. There's lots of people willing to spend money on useless items.

Wow! It's really an amazing painting! Can I buy it now for $2mil and let's end the auction? Tell me what's your Paypal address so I can send the money right away. Or, tell me your address so I can send a check for $2mil! lol!

Nope, the biggest question is missed by all because the OP could work up some hype. Has anyone thought for a while what if the year ends and the bid hadn't reached even to one hundredth of a million dollars? Would he refuse that offer too or will he accept it (I would take it with both the hands, of course)?

I think it's a good idea, but I believe it's going to be a major expense. If you have the budget for it, though, sure.

Another idea: Print up cheap biz cards (vistaprint.com) with just the site address on it (and maybe the auction ending date), and advertise on craiglist or similar for people in different large cities to hand these cards out to people. It will cost you a bit in having cards printed an hipped, and you'll have to pay these people to hand them out, but it could create some mystery. After all, you're just trying to build traffic to a website. Make it fun!

As I wrote in the last thread that got deleted: try to get medias attention by promoting the painting on blogs and such.

Yeah. That would be awesome. It would sure teach me a lesson. Except it wont happen.

There are lots of people willing to spend $1 million on valuable items - but these people wouldn't still be millionaires if they were stupid enough to spend $1 million on a piece of crap that has no value.
