Is it possible to maintain a directory with unique description for all listings?

Just to add to the discussion. A directory should have various entities - Why not host a blog and offer valuable information? Most people don't do that. This is a great way to attract targeted traffic.

I like BOTW for having a local version that in itself is a niche directory and still provides information for real users. It's built for real users and not just for webmasters and directory submission service providers. I think we need to take this approach on a long term basis. Of course it involves money, dedication and effort, but it's worth the try.

 

Actually more and more businesses are doing this and their blogs although obviously intended to refer users to the main site tend to be good quality and regularly updated.

 

Free directories are more hard to maintain than the paid one's.

 

Yeah, but free directories offer a nice amount of traffic
