Is it possible to have a low file size animated gif?

Hi,

Is it possible to have a low file size/fast loading animated gif that looks as good as flash, but is viewable on all devices?

The good thing with flash is the small file size. Something of 40kb in .swf might be 300kb as an animated gif.

Are there any other file formats compatible with all devices, but which can keep file size low?

I play about with animated gifs and Flash and I am not aware of any alternative to Flash for keeping the file size down. You can always optimise a gif but at the price of loosing image quality.

So if I give you a Flash movie you will be able to make a gif exactly the same size?

 

no it is not possible to keep the files size the same. Gif files will have a larger file size to make the same animation.

 

you cannot compete with flash. With 5 Kb you can make an animation
- any screen size
- any number of frames .. 10 , 50, 100 ..etc
- nice vector backgrounds
- interactive

The size of a gif image depends on what kind of image are you displaying
If it is a picture or a sequence of picture the result will be a big size image
It its something clean (not to often changing pixel) then you can get a small image

 

I think that is good enough for you to use the format file to enrolled the flash or jpg pic.
