    Hi there

I have a number of sites that are No 1 in Yahoo but not in top 50 for Google - is it possible to create a business with such a niche?

The site are for car hire in Italy - Here is one of the sites alghero car hire

    Thanks for any help?

Yes, it is. :) One of my past free hosting ventures always ranked in the first three results of Yahoo for several valuable keywords. It was a good position to be in, producing a good amount of traffic each day. Mind you, it's nowhere near as good as Google would be - keep working towards your Google position. But Yahoo is a great place to rank as number 1. Hope that helps! :)

For Yahoo you need to optimise your meta tags. Or at least fill them all in.

It's not very helpful to tell him that it is better to rank well in Google. I'm sure everyone on here knows that.

It is possible to do quite well with just Yahoo rankings, but you would need to keep expanding to cover more keywords. Unless your niche makes a lot of money per visitor, you would need to really dominate Yahoo for a wide range of keywords or for some high volume keywords.

If you keep working at your Yahoo rankings, you'll probably eventually get Google rankings too. You just have to build more trust with Google first. Remove anything spammy and try to make your marketing look as natural as possible.

Some sites do well with yahoo at first, and some with google. Not sure why, but I do know that if you just keep working hard, and keep adding good links, I am sure you will be able to be competitive in both search engines. Sometimes it takes time, but the results can be very rewarding.

I disagree, I think that it is very valid and Kuzmanin is stating that it might be better to concentrate time and effort in improving the Google ranking than trying to build a business targeting less than 20% of internet users.

I don't think you can make a business this way . Ever since we all know that yahoo doesn't have too many search queries (maybe 20 percent ) , I just don't see how can you make a business upon this. Also, Yahoo doesn't discover search volume - which makes it more hard to predict.
