Hey guys. I have a site that's in the music niche, and I find that many times there are about 4 music videos that take up the number 1 spot for related searches in Google, together with thumbnails. Reaserch on SERP positions shows that the number one spot is twice as valuable as number 2 spot. But in the music niche, it seems almost impossible to dislodge the videos, and the rest of musical content is left to feed off video's scraps. So here is my question: Is it possible for text-based content to dislodge videos that are already entrenched in the number one position, or are video sites like YouTube too well SEO'd for the small guys to stand a chance?
Being in first position isn't always necessary, first page is often enough, dont obsess over the top position, especially if it might not make much difference if you got there, and might not stay there either.
There's a huge difference between the CTR of first and second, and an even bigger difference on the CTR of 1st and third, fourth or fifth. If the videos are more relevant to the search than a text based result then you may have to create videos to compete, which link or reference your site.
Very good question and the answer is that I really don't know. I would have thought that text based content would have held more value, but perhaps Google are giving a higher emphasis to video
CTR is just that though, although google itself may have seen a page as relevant enough to place it in the top position, its not unusual that a visitor might not find what they need there. Will the OP's visitors be searching for information to read or a music video, does the OP's site provide both of those? Its natural that video is going to show up higher depending on other things, after all, people probably dont visit a site to listen to an mp3 as much as they may visit a video site to listen to and watch the video at the same time.
It could be both Yes and No in this case. You should be aware about domain authority already. That video has a good ranking not because solely on themselves but because of root domain authority that caused it. I have no doubt that text based content would have advantage over video since most search engine bots cannot read clearly on video but opposite on the textual. However, if your domain has not enough authority then it would be a lot of wet works awaiting.
