To late See http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051216/bs_nm/media_timewarner_google_dc Web search leader Google Inc. There are plenty of pay directories, why would anyone want another? DMOZ is simply a different way of doing things and there is room in the market for lots of different models. It is just a guess but if someone bought DMOZ and tried to change its basic concepts the editors would start the project afresh elsewhere using the last RDF dump as the starting point. It is the Google connection that is at the root of most issues people have with DMOZ but that connection isn't within the DMOZ sphere of influence - the data is made freely available to all and Google pick it up as anyone else can. There would be plenty of benefits for editors if Google changed its mind on that. If I had the cash to buy it I would keep the basic concepts precisely as they are but redirect some of the administrative priorities to areas I think personally are important, for example work on clarifying guidelines for the benefit of editors and outsiders. I suspect this will start happening next year anyway, I would just bring it forward. I suspect there are some minor things such as email confirmation of receipt of a suggestion, outlining what it means and what happens next, that might greatly help the public image and understanding.
Strange. In other thread I have read that you suggested a site to DMOZ and that you applied to become an editor. Why would you do this is you think DMOZ is crap?
