Is it possible for me to use my Windows XP license from a different computer?

If I bought a computer with Windows Vista, would it be possible for me to install Windows XP on that computer using a license from another computer? I don't plan on using that computer anymore and will probably put it in a closet for storage.

Your not supposed to use your XP license on a second computer. Microsoft's license says that the license is only supposed to go with the machine that it was installed on at the factory. When the machine dies the license is supposed to go with it. Will it work on another machine, yes, but your not supposed to.

Well, I'm actually thinking of downgrading to Windows 98 on my old computer. But then again I've never tried Vista so maybe it's better than what some people are saying.

What if all the components in your machines completely burn out and you have to replace every single little part? That would almost be like an entirely new computer.

A license means you are permitted to install the copy of the program X amount of times.

With Windows XP, 1 license = 1 install.

If the computer that is using this license is dead, you are permitted to reinstall windows. Basically, only 1 copy of Windows XP can exist at any time with 1 license for it. If the first one is removed, then a second one can be added, again if the first one is never used again.

I dunno how concerned Microsoft is at this point, considering they have been trying to kill off XP for the past year now.
