Is it pointless to have Google search on your website?

I started to add google search on a few pages of my website but I am now wondering whether it is pointless. It is not showing hardly any results, I know it is another revenue source but I really wanted it so that people can search the site properly, which it is not doing.

I considered using Google search as a quick site search facility for a client. Until I realised it was a new-build site and wouldn't work for weeks, if at all. Doh!

I ended up going with another free provider of hosted site searching - www.picosearch.com - only because the client didn't want to fork out for us to code one. Shame really, it's worth doing.

why don't you state at the index page that if they want to easily get what they are looking for they should use the search facility

I am using google search on my website just so customers can find quicker what they want. It doesn't bring almost any income.
