I am building a new blog and I was wondering about the fact that it sounds like the XML Sitemap notifies Google, Yahoo, et cetera, each time the site map is updated with a new post/page or update of a post/page. Could this cause any problems for me as I'm building the blog, as I will be adding pages, possibly one right after another, as I'm building the new site (Contact Us, About, et cetera), and I assume that the site map will update immediately after each one. (I've read it can cause a problem if you ping Google too many times in a short period of time.) Right now I have the privacy settings to block search engines, but I do have the XML sitemap activated. I was going to change the privacy settings after I had my basic pages constructed and had done a couple of posts. I'm kind of flying by the seat of my pants on this. Am I doing this correctly/incorrectly? Thanks
you don't need to turn off your sitemap for posting the content I would suggest you to change the ping time to once per day, if you are making quite too many changes. We have set of blogs, we don't turn off any plugins while posting, its only when we upgrade we turn off the plugin for safety reasons, we have never had probs
Personally I don't install a sitemap or lift the privacy restriction until I know I have everything organized the way I want and have my All In One SEO fields populated correctly. It's not a big deal, but I like that first crawl and listing to have to right description and meta data Too many times I have allowed a blog to be crawled while building it and changed things around, only to find out that a previous version of information is what has been crawled and displayed. Even so, it will eventually correct itself.
