Is it OK to sell Links?

I thought Google was against sites that sell/purchase links with the sole purpose of passing PR. Yet, one of the sites selling text links is actually advertising with Google! Go figure .....

I'm no expert, but ADVERTISING comes in many forms... links being one of those.

I personally buy advertising (links) on a variety of sites, but NOT exclusively for PR,
but because I think I will find some new customers/visitors - if the site happens to
have some PR, all the better.

It's been said a million times already - relevancy :)

    Just my opinion,

I buy links on all sorts of gardening sites. They are relevant, so they bring me customers too, but if theyhappen to help my PR, i sure take that as a positive side effect :)

True! But, I thought Google had a problem with sites buying links solely to gain PR. And yet, they don't have a problem advertising sites that sell links solely based on their PR. :) I suppose nobody complains when money's coming in, eh?

There's nothing wrong with advertising - but do be aware that Google have been coming down hard on sites that appear to be selling PageRank. Just because you can pay for an add on a high PR page, doesn't mean to say that you are actually going to get any PR benefit from it.
