We have a batch program that will be regenerating a Google Sitemap in a daily basis. We added a feature wherein the program will automatically ping google after the sitemap has been regenerated. Anyone knows if there is a limit for pinging google about sitemaps update? Thanks
That should be fine. That's why the system was built after all, to handle more regular updates for sites with constant content
yes it does not matter if you ping google as i do it also when i update my contents, i have a wordpress plugin which do this automatically for me
Thanks for the response. I was only worried that their might be a limit that we don't know of. More power to all of you
There's no limit that I know of, but AutoMapIt scans a site to see if there were any changes between the sitemaps it generates. It only pings if changes were made. You can probably ping several times per day without any updates and get away with it, but why? If there's nothing new on your site, it's not like pinging them more often will help your rank.
Where Google Sitemaps is concerned, it was developed for this very situation - Google wants to know each and every time an update occurs to have the best possible chance of not having its index out of date. However, Google Sitemaps also has a "memory" If you update your sitemap every day for two weeks, and let Google know about it by pinging, you will find that Google re-downloads your sitemap just as often without pinging thereafter, so long as your sitemap keeps updating at the same frequency. What I am saying - after a while, it will be a redundant feature and you may find you get better results by turning it off!
