Is it OK to Link you own Sites together on Similar Topics?

Is it considered cheating if you personally own multiple sites that are on the same/similar topic and you have them link to one another?
Do the engines frown on this for any reason?
Dont want to get banned or penalized!

I am a music teacher and I also create sites for music teachers across the country. I would like to include a link on each site I create back to my own web-site-building-service site to get new business.

I would also like to show potential clients the sites I’ve built by including links back to them from my own site.

Didn’t know if this was somehow considered bad, as if it looks like im trying to fake popularity. Many of the pages I’ve created have very similar layouts. Concerned that looks fishy to the algorithms. Or, if I needed to use “no follow” for some reason…

    thanks!

The term for this is a circle jerk. To do it properly, you need to have each site link to, or "jerk", only one other site, so that in the end, if you were to make a diagram of the links, you would be left with a circle.

It will help your traffic, because visitors will travel around the circle, with no way to leave.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Circle Jerk......

I think you might find that this term means something quite different....

In reality what you are asking is quite simple, it is a good thing but you have to maintain the sites away from each others class C IP addresses and interlink well to carry good PR to your sites. Also dont forget the incoming links from other peoples sites, you need to get traffic/PR in first before spreading it!
